My first target was to finish off BJP: B S Yeddyurappa

Bengaluru: After spoiling the prospects of the ruling BJP in the recently concluded ULB polls and achieving his ‘mission,’ Karnataka Janata Paksha (KJP) president B.S. Yeddyurappa has now set his sights on the upcoming assembly elections.
“My first target was to finish the BJP in the ULB elections because they ditched me. People have taught them a lesson. My next target is to storm the assembly,” the KJP president told reporters here.
The former chief minister who was involved in a ding-dong battle with senior BJP leaders including party patriarch L.K. Advani before his exit from the BJP last year, did not spare the BJP top brass saying they should realise the importance of his contribution to the growth of the party in Karnataka.
“Without me, the BJP has cut a sorry figure as it lost in almost all districts, particularly in strongholds like Udupi and Puttur. The BJP central leaders should realize the party’s plight in Karnataka without Yeddyurappa,” he quipped.
Referring to the poor performance in his home district, Shimoga, Yeddyurappa said: “We are a new party and were concentrating on assembly elections. We did not expect early ULB polls. But winning about 300 wards in three months is not a mean achievement”.
He said that party had fielded weak candidates in North Karnataka to help his loyalist ministers who had promised to join the Karnataka Janata Party in due course. Ruling out a realignment with the Bharatiya Janata Party in future, he said: “There is no question of going back or forging an alliance with that party”.
